Types of Theatrical Luminaires

There are numerous types of theatrical luminaires, which can be roughly grouped into three main categories, according to the complexity of the optical system:

Simple luminaires - Luminaires with a basic simple optical system.which typically produce a fixed light beam.
This category includes floodlights, parcans, ACL units and MR units.
Focusable luminaires - Luminaires in which the beam angle, and thus the   size of the light beam and light distribution, can be adjusted. This category includes lens spotlights (PC and fresnel), beamlights and focus floodlights.   Complex luminaires - Luminaires with sophisticated optical and mechanical systems which enable control and independent adjustment of a variety of light beam properties such as size, shape and intensity pattern. This category includes all profile-spots either with  fixed lenses or with variable lens.
