Film Projection

The incorporation of film projection in stage productions can be very effective. Film projectors used in theatrical performances must use stronger lamps than in regular movie theatres as they are usually used in conjunction with the stage lighting. The projector is usually placed in the conventional front of house projection booth , or sometimes placed at the back of the stage for rear projection. Like any other kind of projection, the film can be projected onto a conventional projection screen, or onto scenery or actors .

Film projections can provide spectacular dynamic visual effects.Political and propagandist theatre, since the pioneering work of Erwin Piscator in Germany in the 20s, has embraced the use of documentary film material, which has become associated with this kind of theatre.

Josef Svoboda's unique theatre, the Laterna Magica, uses film projection as an essential component of its scenographic and dramatic concepts. Laterna Magica has been exploring the artistic potential of integrating live actors into a fluid dramatic space for almost forty years  .
