Control Boards

21_07_503

Evey intelligent luminaire has numerous controllable parameters, the more versatile the luminaire the more parameters there are. Specially designed computerized control boards control the parameters of these moving lights, which are often used in groups of luminaires working in unison.

Some control boards for moving lights are designed to work side by side along with conventional control boards.

Some control boards are designed exclusively for moving lights, in which case more than one board is used as there are invariably conventional luminaires lighting the stage in addition to the intelligent luminaires. Other boards incorporate both moving light control features, as well as conventional dimming control features. Certain features are required of all moving lights boards: manual override of the various control channels, controlling the movement of the beam, the light intensity and other features of the moving light, and a MIDI interface which enables coordination between music and lighting changes and movements.

The various control signals for the various control parameters of intelligent luminaires are digitally encoded. The most common code is the DMX 512 digital communication protocol, although some manufacturers prefer a proprietary house digital control protocol for their intelligent luminaires.
