Color Changing

There are two basic approaches to color changing in intelligent luminaires, both of which use dichroic filters:

Color wheels: Low price range moving luminaires and simpler models use a single color wheel, incorporated into the luminaire, in order to change colors. When a change of color is effected, the transition is obvious, and the previous color and   new color can be seen simultaneously as the wheel turns.

Subtractive color mixing: In state-of-the-art intelligent luminaires, the color changing system is based on subtractive color mixing of three different dichroic filters. Different manufacturers have devised different methods such as three separate color wheels which can be moved separately or color shutters which overlap. These systems enable the creation of a wide range of hues. The more sophisticated methods effect a seamless fade from one color to the next.
